Fully Coupled Body Force–Engine Performance Methodology for Boundary Layer Ingestion

Because of their potential reductions fuel consumption, disruptive propulsion concepts such as boundary layer ingestion have lately earned the attention aerospace community. increased level interactions brought by tight airframe–propulsor integration, an accurate assessment this benefit requires a detailed study engine behavior from both aerodynamics and overall performance standpoint. In context, Paper presents fully coupled methodology that integrates zero-dimensional thermodynamic cycle analysis core three-dimensional body force representation fan stage into single numerical computation. This approach allows efficient simulation fan–distortion in terms accuracy vs computational cost tradeoff, making it well suited for conducting full aircraft–engine fluid dynamics calculations. The coupling is demonstrated impacts on small DGEN380 turbofan. Results provide quantification efficiency, power demand, thrust specific flow distortion transfer, aeromechanical response, different net settings.
